Abstract : Testicular torsion due to rotation of the testis with twisting of the spermatic cord is an acute emergency, classically presenting with an acute painful testis. In the neonate however, the clinical presentation differs in that there is usually no pain or irritability, and the only findings initially maybe an enlarged testis, or a hard painless testicular mass and therefore diagnosis and consequent management may be delayed. The reported annual incidence of testicular torsion is 1:4000 males below the age of 25 years (1). In contrast, neonatal testicular torsion is rare, comprising10 to 12% of all torsions (2, 3). To our knowledge, less than 200 cases have been reported (4). We describe the clinical features and out come in two neonates with testicular torsion who presented over a period of two months, and review published reports about, yet potentially serious condition.
